Workshop

Be a Curator Workshop

Tuesdays & Thursdays

This brand-new workshop gives pupils in KS1&2 the chance to explore our galleries, choose their favourite pieces and curate their own mini-exhibition.

The visit will begin with a trip to the Harley Gallery to see a brand-new exhibition of the work of the Harley Studio artists, Work Life: Life’s Work.  Pupils will see a range of original artworks and learn to discuss the different materials they are made from, the connections that tie them together, and how art can make us feel. KS2 pupils will explore the diverse range of opinions that art can provoke.

Filling out their own gallery sketchbooks, pupils will record and analyse their favourite pieces, then move to the Portland collection to add further objects to their themed ‘gallery’. Finally, pupils will practise their speaking and listening skills by presenting their chosen pieces to each other.

By participating in this workshop, pupils will:

  • Improve their mastery of drawing techniques. (Art & Design Curriculum for KS2).
  • Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design (Art & Design Curriculum for KS1&2)
  • Learn about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines (Art & Design Curriculum for KS1)
  • Learn to create sketch books to record their observations (Art & Design Curriculum for KS2).
  • Learn to speak audibly and fluently with an increasing command of Standard English, and participate in discussions and presentations (English Curriculum for KS1&2)
