Art can inspire, challenge, comfort and surprise. Take part in our Encounter Art day to give your class the opportunity to expand their horizons, try new things and learn that art gallery and museum spaces can be fun!

This visit can be run as a half day (10-12.15, 2 activities) or full day (10-2.15, 3 activities) school visit. Choose activities from the list below to create your own bespoke visit.
All activities are led by the Harley Foundation’s Education team. We can take 1 class of up to 35 students at a time. We can adapt activities to be suitable for KS1 or KS2 classes.
Prices: £3 per learner for a half day, £5 per learner for a full day.
Activities to choose from
Gallery visit– we will visit the Harley Gallery’s current exhibition, learn about different materials and techniques which artists use, and play some fun games to engage with the artwork. The nature of this visit may change slightly depending on the current exhibition.
Portland visit – we will explore the objects of the Portland Museum with a theme of your choice and finish with some sketching activities. The themes currently available are Animals, Technology & Materials, and Tudor Portraits.
Creative walk – inspired by the rural beauty of the Welbeck estate, we will go for a walk and complete some creative activities. You can choose between poetry writing or sketching. Please ensure your class dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
Hands-on activity – held in our Education studio, we will have a go at an art or craft activity inspired by work in the Harley Gallery or Portland Museum.

- Produce creative work
