Paper Snowflakes

1 hr activity

Try these ideas to make paper snowflake decorations and turn your home into a winter wonderland.

Our paper snowflakes activity is inspired by Geoffrey Preston’s exhibition A Symphony of Curves.

Snowflake One

1. You will need eight sheets of tissue paper.

2. Fold the tissue over and under (like a fan/concertina).

3. When the paper is folded, cut the ends into a petal shape or point.

4. Tie a thread around the middle tightly.

5. Tie a thread around the middle tightly. Start to pull out the layers of the pompom. First four layers on top on either side.

6. Then turn over and pull out the other four layers on the bottom on either side. Fluff your pompom for the perfect shape.

Snowflake Two

1. You will need a square piece of white paper.

2. Fold the paper in half to make a triangle. Then fold over again to make a smaller triangle.

3. Fold from point A. – see below. Then fold point C. over – see below.

4. Cut the bottom of the triangle – see below.

5. Draw out shapes on the triangle then cut them out.

6. Unfold the triangle to reveal a paper snowflake!

Snowflake Three

1. You need a white A4 sheet of paper.

2. Fold the paper under and over like a fan / concertina.

3. When the paper is folded, tie a thread around the middle tightly.

4. Draw out shapes / pattern onto each end of the folded paper.

5. Cut out the shapes.

6. Unfold the paper to reveal a snowflake. Glue each end together to hold the paper snowflakes in place.
