Adele is one of our favourite jewellers, and we have shown her work in the Harley Gallery shop for over 20 years. Distinctive gemstones from rough cut diamonds to delicate quartz, combined with textural metals is Adele’s signature look.

She is inspired by vast landscapes, from the Yorkshire Moors not far from her Sheffield studio, to the monochromatic drama of Iceland where she recently visited, and she inscribes the raw energy of these places into the surface of the metal. It is this combination of sparking gem and rough surface pattern that characterises her work.

“I have always been interested in surface patterns and texture, and I like the way you can draw on metal by stamping, embossing, and etching. This way I can create textures inspired by the landscapes which surround me.”

When walking in the landscape Adele collects little mementos to take back to the work bench for future inspiration. From a small pebble to a rusty old washer, her pockets are filled with potential ideas. Often these hoarded objects are a reminder of a time when they were gathered, on a holiday, or solitary walk, and therefore the piece of jewellery has a hidden significance.  Her family have now joined in with the gathering of things which is perpetuating a continuous evolution of her work.
