Debbie Barber

Debbie is a Leicestershire based ceramic artist who originally trained in textile decoration and embroidery. After spending a decade working in the field she discovered a new love for ceramics, returning to college to study pottery.

“I still retain the influences from my textile background. I love historic patterns found in cloth, and I am also inspired by Medieval carved stonework, the natural world, and garden birds!  All of these influences can be found in the form and surfaces of my sculptures.

My first experience of ceramics was actually at an evening class which my Mum took me to as a teenager.  My fondest memories are spending time with her, just the two of us, and while neither of us showed any particular talent, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It remains a very special memory, and I often wonder what she would make of my ceramics now if she were still alive.”
