Jim Stringer

Jim and Laura Stringer’s glimmering pewter bowls are inspired by a historic table service on display in the Portland Collection Museum and are on sale in the Harley Gallery Shop.

Jim and Laura, a husband-and-wife team based in Sheffield, have over 30 years’ experience in metalsmithing. They took inspiration from a silver-gilt table service on display in our Portland Museum.  The 178-piece service was originally commissioned by Margaret Bentinck, 2nd Duchess of Portland in 1756 and reflected her interest in natural history and the plates, cutlery, candelabra and serving vessels crawl with delicately modelled insects.

Jim and Laura’s pewter bowls also crawl with delicately modelled insects, some of which can be removed and worn as brooches. This collection was awarded First Prize in the 2018 Worshipful Company of Pewterers Design Competition.
