Laura Baxter

Laura Baxter is a resident at the Harley Foundation Studios and an established metalsmith and jeweller who creates large public artworks.

Her work is inspired by a fascination with plants—their structures, growing patterns, movements, textures, and symbolism. Laura views her creations as sculptures that can be worn or enjoyed as decorative objects.

A personal relationship with nature is central to her life and work. Laura constantly collects, draws, and photographs plant forms. Her work focuses on extracting and arranging individual elements of plants into abstract 3D compositions in metal.

“My intention in this is to make wearable, durable, nature. Work is constructed using shaping, die-pressing, piercing, and forging techniques. Surface texture and finishes are applied using roll-printing, punches, and oxidising.”
