Lisa Katzenstein

We have worked with Lisa for many years, and have sold hundreds of her bright, joyful, and skilfully made pots. Lisa is a painter as well and a potter and this is clear to see in her work. She combines her interests by painting the surfaces of her pots using a technique called Maiolica. This means each pot is a one-off, featuring her bold and bright floral designs.

“I have always drawn and painted plants, their texture, colour, and shape. Maiolica is a technique made for painting ceramics. It is a wonderful conduit for colour, depth, and creating luminosity, not to be found in other ceramic techniques. It allows me to treat the bare white surface of my blank ceramics as canvases, and to make each pot a one-off work of art.”
