Natalie Bell’s miniature vases are perfect porcelain pops of colour. On their own or in groups, her work is ideal for brightening corners of the home and displaying seasonal posies of wildflowers.
After graduating from Nottingham Trent University, Natalie set up her studio the following year in 2019 in her hometown of Mansfield Woodhouse. From here she creates slip-cast vessels in porcelain which is usually a technique usually associated with mass production.
“I appreciate the repetitive aspect of this method. It allows me to create multiple pieces with precision and consistency. I find the repetition in slip-casting to be quite therapeutic, and I really enjoy making in this way.”
While they could be a solitary statement on a mantle or windowsill. Natalie envisions her vessels as family groups, gathered in different sizes and in a variety of soft muted colours.
“As soon as I got my studio space, I started experimenting with different colours – I tried as many as I could get my hands on. Right now, I am working with a palette of 21 different colours but I have plans to expand and add even more to my repertoire. Ultimately, I hope that my ceramics can brighten someone’s day.”
