Neil Wilkin

Neil Wilkin is recognised as one of Britain’s finest glass craftsmen who produces towering, attention grabbing installations, as well as quieter vessels. His enduring love of the natural world has been the driving force behind a lifetime of making.

“As a child I wanted to be a geologist and my interest in elements continues through the alchemy of glassblowing. When I blow glass, the colours behave like layers of rock. Hard and soft, absorbing and transmitting heat just as they do light. I encourage the form to flow, and allow those layers to pull and draw, It’s a respect for material.”

In 2023 Neil exhibited at the Harley Gallery, showing his installation Flower Garden, with around thirty freestanding glass and steel outdoor sculptures. Neil has generously given the Harley four of his most striking vessels for our Christmas showcase. These large pieces are some of the best glassware being produced today.

“To me the bowl is the most pleasing of all forms. Apparently simple, yet deceptively difficult to do well. The bowl is a perfect canvas.”
