Nikki McWilliams cushions are inspired by some of the UK’s best loved teatime treats. What better way to enjoy a refreshing drink, than sinking into a cuddly custard cream cushion whilst dunking a digestive?
Nikki founded her namesake homeware and accessory label in 2009. She is based in Alloa, Scotland, where she creates a range of goods that draw inspiration from the ritual of taking tea and the social worlds built around food.
It was while studying Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Dundee, that Nikki began to sow the seeds of what would eventually become her business. “When I was at art school I had a creative block and was really stuck for ideas. So, I had a tea break and a biscuit, and then I started drawing the biscuits…”
Today many of her cushions reference food packaging, including her decade-long collaboration with Tunnock’s, the family-run Scottish biscuit company that was founded in 1890. “I love old packaging, anything that makes you feel some sort of happy memory. The whole thing with biscuits for me is that they remind me of good times.”
