Sally Muir’s dog-obsessed way of life led to an enduring series of dog portraits that include drawings, paintings, prints, cards and books that celebrate both the beauty of dogs and the deep bond between humans and their four-legged companions.
Sally is a prominent figure in contemporary animal portraiture and her paintings and drawings are featured in our exhibition A Dog’s Life. During the show we are delighted to be able to offer visitors the opportunity to buy one of her prints, cards or books in our gallery shop.
Sally’s three books, A Dog a Day, Old Dogs, and Rescue Dogs, feature canine portraits, alongside anecdotes and reflections from her own experiences living with dogs. The prints and cards on sale feature key portraits from these books.
While taking care of her small children, Sally studied part-time at Bath University. Dogs became her favourite subject, and her aim is to capture the essence of the dog, its personality, and the experience of being in its presence. As well as her portrait projects which were turned into books, Sally has also designed a range of interior designs for the shop Anthropologie, and co-authoured several knitting books including Pet Heaven, The Animal Accessory Bible, Best in Show, and Knit Your Own Dog.
