Steve Handley

Steve is a resident at the Harley Foundation Studios. He trained as a sculptor in the 60s and taught for many years before turning to furniture making, specialising in wall cupboards and to date he has made over 3000.

His inspiration comes from the agricultural past, European folk art; and things made by the ‘unskilled’ out of resourceful necessity. His strength as a maker is reinventing abandoned objects.

His passion for the country and the old farming ways comes through in many of his pieces which are often inscribed with one of his own poetic rhymes or a special message tucked away somewhere out of sight.
