Virginia Graham

Virginia’s ceramics are curious, eccentric, nostalgic and distinctly British. We have sold her work in the Harley Gallery shop for nearly two decades and have a stream of eager collectors for her pots.

Her work is uniquely recognisable and has received many awards, has been featured on television, and in many magazines including Vogue. She has exhibited internationally from Japan to the US, and widely here in the UK from the Victoria and Albert Museum to Selfridges.

“I use a combination of slip casting and hand building techniques to create forms with many components, often recreating objects and placing them out of context. For example, I frequently use a tap as a mug handle or a teapot lid. The surface decoration of my pots make reference to utilitarian wares from industrial ceramic history, including Cornish Ware , Blue and blue and Willow Pattern, as well as Victorian fabric and industrial plumbing! Transfers, metallic lustres and found objects are the finishing touches that I use to create eclectic pieces that are ordinary yet strangely familiar.”

Virginia works from her home studio in Aberdeen after a recent move up to the Northeast of Scotland in 2024. Working with clay is something she always aspired to since her early experiment with clay in primary school.  She continued this education in London and Wales before setting up her business in 2000.
