Vivienne’s charming ceramics are full of wit and whimsy. Her functional tableware is decorated with scenes inspired by bustling family life, from people in gardens and kitchens, or tending pets, to swimming in the sea and socialising.
Each piece is unique, hand-made, individually decorated and signed. Most pieces are made with red earthenware clay which Vivienne decorates using her trademark palette of pastel colours. There are only a few potters who use figurative decoration and Vivienne’s work displays a number of qualities, not least her great sense of humour.
“I work intuitively and spontaneously, allowing everyday thoughts and pre-occupations to dictate the image. There is a lot of comedy in my work, and enough ambiguity to let the viewer make their own interpretation.”
Vivienne is based in North Staffordshire.
