Make your own passementerie acorn with textile artist Ruth Waller.
You will learn
An endangered heritage craft, passementerie (the craft of tassels and trimmings) has long stayed in the background of stately homes, adorning curtains and other soft furnishings.
Join us for this half-day workshop to help revitalise the craft and learn basic passementerie skills. Inspired by the sumptuous tassels on the Talleyrand Bed, learn about the intricacies of this craft that celebrates small details. Using a mould, you will learn how to thread and knot yarns to create a luxurious item of home decor.
Techniques covered include:
- Threading and knotting yarns
- Creating a net
- Selecting colours and textures of yarn
You will need
This is an adult session perfect for complete beginners. You must be aged 14+ to attend, all under 18’s must be accompanied by a paying adult.
All materials and equipment, such as yarn and needles, will be provided.
Additional information
Please note, this workshop involves gripping small items while you manipulate threads. A degree of fine motor skill is needed. Please get in touch if you are unsure if this course is suitable for you.
Meet the Tutor
Ruth Waller
Ruth Waller is a contemporary textile artist and half of the creative partnership Waller Hewett. Waller Hewett create artwork and installations which combine art, design and craft, and have won them numerous awards including ‘Best in Show’ at the London Craft Fair.
Ruth is a highly experienced tutor and teaches across the Harley Foundation’s education programme. She works from her Harley Foundation Studio on the Welbeck Estate.
