Drawing in the Museum

The first Friday of each month

Join us for a relaxed morning of drawing and discussion; sharpen your pencils and your drawing skills.

You will learn

Slow down and take a closer look at The Portland Collection’s historic artworks exhibited in our museum with artist Caroline Greyling. Bring your sketchbooks and art materials and take some time out of your morning to be inspired. Through observation you will explore the works on display, looking at structure, composition, colour, narrative, and symbolism.

Each session will begin with a short introduction to the month’s ‘artwork in focus’, after which you will create your own drawings, working directly from the museum’s display. Our tutor will be on hand to guide you in various techniques as you develop your own drawing style and improve your skills. A worksheet with information and prompts will be provided for each session.

You will need

This is an adult session, perfect for seasoned artists or enthusiastic beginners. You must be aged 14+ to attend, all under 18’s must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Stools and basic materials will be provided but you may wish to bring your own. Suggested materials to bring:
