Family Workshop: Mosaic Mirrors

For ages 7+
27 August 2026

Please note: This event has passed, please check What's On to see what we have coming up

Use shells, tiles, and fragments of old pottery to learn how to make your own mosaic mirror.

You will learn

Popular with the Romans, mosaics are made up of hundreds of ‘tesserae’ glued together in bright patterns and pictures. Spend the afternoon designing your own mosaic pattern, then piece together fragments of pottery, tiles and found materials to bring your design to life.

We will be decorating framed mirrors with the mosaics, which you will be able to take home and use every day.

Techniques covered include:

Designing your pattern
Selecting your materials
Arranging and sticking down your finished mosaic piece

You will need

This workshop is for children aged 7-16 and their parent or guardian; parents and guardians must stay with their child at all times.

Additional information

All materials and equipment for the session will be provided.

If your child is confident working independently, you can make your own creation by purchasing additional materials as a £12 add-on.
