Join us for a gallery talk with Rob Balfour as he lifts the lid on historic organs with tales of restoration and renewal.
Rob Balfour-Rowley is a specialist in theatre organ restoration, he joined Goetze Gwynn as a director and organ builder in 2020. Martin Goetze and Dominic Gwynn set up their firm in 1980 to help revive interest in British organ-building and in particular the pre-Victorian British organ.
In this talk, Rob will discuss their work on the New College Consort Organ currently on display in the Harley Gallery. You will also watch as he demonstrates tuning an organ.
Rob Balfour-Rowley
Rob Balfour-Rowley originally trained as an electronic engineer. During college he volunteered with the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust, helping to maintain two Wurlitzer theatre pipe organs. He has worked in organ building and restoration for over 15 years.
In July 2020, he joined Goetze and Gwynn Ltd as a director, and works from their Harley Foundation Studio on the Welbeck Estate.
