Join us for a gallery talk to explore the rich history of willow growing and weaving in Nottinghamshire – focusing on one of the natural materials at the heart of our new basketry exhibition.
Willow grower, sculptor, and weaver Alison Walling will guide you through the fascinating world of willow – from how it is grown to its many uses in craft and conservation. She’ll also share stories of its deep-rooted connections to Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, including stories of local historic basketmakers like the Harry Summer of Sutton on Trent.
After the talk, immerse yourself in our exhibition, Basketry: Rescuing, Reviving, Retaining, where you can see first hand the extraordinary objects woven from willow today.
